Would you believe that this skinny little boy would become one of the greatest boxers ever and the first to conquer eight divisions in boxing? Manny Pacquiao, from the Philippines, is considered one of the greatest of all time.
Starting from flyweight, Pacquiao rose through the ranks, capturing his first world title on December 4, 1998, as a flyweight. He then moved up and won the super bantamweight title in 2001, the featherweight title in 2003, and continued climbing, securing titles in the super featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight divisions. By 2010, after defeating Antonio Margarito, Pacquiao became the first and only boxer to win titles in eight weight divisions.
Pacquiao’s journey began in 1995, when a 16-year-old Manny had his first professional fight. Known for his aggressive style and knockout power, he quickly made a name for himself in the Philippines.
At 19, he won his first world title by defeating Chatchai Sasakul, the WBC flyweight champion. After losing his flyweight title, Manny moved up to the super bantamweight division and won the WBC International Super Bantamweight Championship.
His U.S. debut in 2001 came as a replacement fighter against IBF super bantamweight champion Lehlo Ledwaba, where Pacquiao shocked the world with his speed and power, winning by knockout.
Over the next few years, he defeated several champions, including Marco Antonio Barrera, establishing himself as a dominant force in the sport. Pacquiao continued to defeat top-level opponents, including Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Márquez, and Ricky Hatton.
In 2009, Pacquiao claimed his seventh world title by defeating Miguel Cotto. The following year, he made history by defeating Margarito to win his eighth world championship. Known for his lightning speed, powerful punches, and relentless heart, Manny Pacquiao’s rise to becoming an eight-division world champion solidified his legacy as one of the all-time boxing greats.
