When Michael Jackson died in June 2009, he left behind three children, Prince, 26, Paris, 25, and Bigi (formerly known as Blanket), 21. After the iconic performer’s untimely death, the three children went to live with their grandmother, Katherine Jackson.
Prince and Paris’ mother Debbie Rowe lost custody of her children after splitting from Michael Jackson. She never regained custody of them but has slowly formed bonded since they lost their father.
The trio have been in the public eye through most of their lives and have stayed close. Prince recently appeared on Good Morning Britain and talked about the relationship between the siblings saying, “We’re kind of all on that same level where my sister has her strengths, and my brother has his strengths, and where I’m not as strong in certain areas, they complement me in that way.”
Who Are Michael Jackson’s Kids?
Michael Jackson’s first child with ex-wife Debbie Rowe is Michael Joseph Jackson Jr who is commonly referred to as Prince Michael Jackson. He graduated with a degree in business administration from Loyola Marymount University in 2019. He is a huge motorcycle fan and has a YouTube channel dedicated to the vehicle, where he is sometimes joined by his brother and cousin.
Paris Jackson is Michael’s 2nd child with Debbie Rowe, born in 1998. She is a singer and actress, recently appearing in Swarm on Prime.
Paris went through several public struggles after her father’s death. She told Rolling Stone that she’d attempted suicide “multiple times” by age 15. She was also hospitalized in 2015 after a possible suicide attempt.
In 2019, she sought treatment for her physical and emotional health. A statement told People, “She checked herself into a treatment facility to aid in her wellness plan and is looking forward to coming out of this revitalized and ready to tackle the exciting new projects that await her.”
Of the three Jackson children, Bigi is the one who mostly stays out the public eye. He was born via surrogate in 2002 as Prince Michael Jackson II and was known as Blanket. In 2015, he changed his name to Bigi.
Why Debbie Rowe Gave Up Custody Of Michael Jackson’s Kids
When Debbie Rowe and Michael Jackson split, she gave up custody of her kids to the legendary singer. Jackson had two children with Debbie during their three-year relationship – Prince, born in February 1997; and Paris born in April 1998.
Debbie has admitted that she said that she never had any intention of being a mother to her children and that her pregnancies were a “means to an end” to satisfy Michael’s desire to become a father.
She revealed a TV interview in 2003 why she was happy for him to have full custody and take over all parenting duties. “I did it for him to become a father, not for me to become a mother… You earn the title parent. I have done absolutely nothing to earn that title.”
She also revealed some truth about her relationship with Jackson, “Michael was divorced, lonely and wanted children. I was the one who said to him, ‘I will have your babies.’”
“I offered him my womb, it was a gift. It was something I did to keep him happy.” Rowe conceived her children via medical procedures.
In 2004, Debbie decided that she wanted to reverse the custody decision and went to court. A settlement was agreed in 2009, and Debbie came to a custody agreement after Michael’s death.
Who Took Care Of Michael Jackson’s Kids After His Death?
Michael Jackson died at just 50 after suffering a cardiac arrest in 2009. Shortly after Michael died, his mother, Katherine Jackson, was given legal custody of Prince, Paris and Blanket Jackson.
In 2012, rumors emerged that Katherine had been “kidnapped.” It led to Katherine briefly losing custody of the children. She told ABC, “There are rumors going around about me that I have been kidnapped. I’m fine.
“I’m here with my children, and my children would never do a thing like that.”
In 2019, Michael’s nephew, TJ Jackson, gained guardianship of Blanket due to Katherine’s age. TJ said at the time, “When [Michael] passed, my brothers and I, we went to our grandmother [Katherine] and basically told her, however we can help, we want to be there.”
“And then, you know, whenever she’d go out of town she’d always call me to see if I can come by, come to the house and, and watch them, you know, and I think she knew I was the only one with a child, so she knew I thought like a parent and I would take care of them like a parent.”
Does Bigi Jackson Have The Same Mom As Paris And Prince?
No, Bigi Jackson’s mother is not Debbie Rowe, like his siblings. The youngest Jackson child, who has now legally changed his name to Bigi, has been shrouded in mystery since his birth in 2002.
Michael Jackson admitted he used a surrogate to conceive Blanket during an interview for the 2003 documentary Living With Michael Jackson.
He explained the process in a conversation with journalist Martin Bashir. “I used a surrogate mother with my own sperm cells,” Jackson said. “I had my own sperm cells with my other two children, they’re all my children, but I used a surrogate mother. And, uh, she doesn’t know me, I don’t know her.”
Blanket’s birth certificate allegedly does not have the name of a mother either, according to a 2009 report by the San Diego Union Tribune.
Does Debbie Rowe Have A Relationship With Her Children?
Paris Jackson appeared on the Red Table Talk with her friend Willow Smith to talk about her relationship with his mother.
She only reconnected with Debbie Rowe at 15, four years after losing her father. “It’s cool. Like, getting to know her, seeing how similar we are, getting into what kind of music she likes, and she really likes country and folk. I sent her some of the stuff that I’m working on that have, like, banjos in them.”
Paris added, “We look a lot alike. It’s just cool having her as a friend. It’s very chill, which I love. It’s the perfect word to describe it.”
