A priest, whose Facebook account identifies him as Fr. Marcelino Rapayla Jr., OAD, recently gave his take on the controversy between Pinoy 2-time Olympic gold medalist, Carlos Yulo, and his mom, Angelica Yulo.

In the beginning of his FB post, which was made last August 9, Fr. Rapayla said that what he’s writing is only his opinion, then added that there’s no need for a press conference.

He then talked about how parents should set themselves as role models for their children.

“Parents must set themselves as exemplary models for their children, as it is within the family that the foundation of values and love is laid,” he said.

“Proverbs 22:6 counsels, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it.” By embodying virtues and love, parents impart essential lessons that their children carry throughout their lives,” Fr. Rapayla added.

The priest then discussed how children should be to their parents, saying that they should demonstrate “care, respect, and love.”

“Similarly, children should reciprocate this respect towards their parents, learning these values at home. Demonstrating care, respect, and love toward their parents is also a way of honoring God, reflecting the teachings and values imparted by their parents,” he said.

Citing a passage in the Holy Book, Fr. Rapayla reminded children to honor their father and mother, though also emphasized there should be mutual respect and love.

“Ephesians 6:1-2 states, ‘Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother’—which is the first commandment with a promise.’ Through mutual respect and love, families can nurture a robust foundation of faith and understanding,” the priest said.

Near the end of his post, Fr. Rapayla encouraged everyone to just celebrate the twin-gold victory of Caloy.

“Let us celebrate the remarkable achievements of Caloy, who, despite discouraging comments, persevered with faith and optimism, striving to do his best for the Philippines. Congratulations, Caloy!” Fr. Rapayla said.

Carlos Yulo is a Filipino artistic gymnast known for his exceptional skills and achievements in gymnastics. He gained international recognition for his performances in various competitions, particularly in the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. He won two gold medals in gymnastics’ men’s floor exercise and men’s vault in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

It can be recalled that the family feud of Carlos Yulo, particularly with that of his mother, Angelica Yulo, has reached the international stage. BBC, a respected news outfit, published an article about the subject matter. It stated that the feud actually eclipsed the two gold Olympic wins of the athlete. The news article also outlined the sequence of events, starting from the time that Angelica released a statement to the media.

Meanwhile, social media influencer Rosmar Tan also recently weighed in on the controversial relationship of Carlos Yulo and Chloe San Jose. The social media influencer said she can relate to the situation of the Olympian and his girlfriend. Rosmar said she and her husband would always go together wherever she goes. It can be recalled that despite the historic win of Carlos at the 2024 Paris Olympics, people seemed to be more interested in his private affairs.
