Bronny James is hours away from making his NBA Draft decision, and his acceptance of meetings with a pair of NBA teams suggested that he’s ready to enter the professional ranks despite mixed scouting reports
Bronny James has offered a signal that he will enter the 2024 NBA Draft by establishing meetings with the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns while declining workouts with eight other teams in the league. Bronny must make his decision by May 29 (Wednesday) on whether he will enter the draft or return to college.
This comes just hours after multiple reports suggested that the Suns could look to sign his father, LeBron James, this offseason. LeBron himself has a big decision to make between remaining with the Lakers, testing free agency to sign elsewhere or even announcing retirement.
LeBron has made it clear on several occasions that he wants to play with Bronny before he finishes his playing career and could now get the chance to do so.
“My last year will be played with my son,” he told The Athletic in 2022. “Wherever Bronny is at, that’s where I’ll be. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year. It’s not about the money at that point.”
Seen as a second-round prospect, Bronny’s decision to decline workouts with teams will likely be open to criticism – with several teams likely taking him off of their draft boards. However, some believe that might be his plan – looking to join the two teams that his father could play for next season while also competing for a championship in his rookie year.
Los Angeles had been rumored to be interested in selecting Bronny with the 55th pick, a low-second-round choice that could see him unite with his father.

The rumors emerging of the Suns interest in both Bronny and LeBron have come out just hours apart – which some believe to be no coincidence. However, to facilitate a move to Phoenix for LeBron, the NBA legend would have to walk away from $50 million.
LeBron has a $50 million option with the Lakers he can take up. However, should he sign for the Suns, he would have to do with on a veteran’s minimum contract – playing for around just $1 million. LeBron has until June 29 to make that decision – which will be after the NBA Draft, held three days earlier.
