LeBron James once tried to emulate Michael Jordan’s coldest-ever free throw in NBA history, but how did it go?
Beyond simply being an incredible player, Jordan won six NBA Championships with the Chicago Bulls and was named the NBA Finals MVP six times.
Not only was he nearly impossible to stop, but Jordan did things that other players wouldn’t ever dare attempt.
An example of that came in 1991, when Jordan scored a free throw with his eyes closed in order to mock Denver Nuggets rookie Dikembe Mutombo. The superstar scored 37 points that game.
Scoring free throw with your eyes closed is frankly an audacious thing to attempt, but Jordan isn’t the only player to try it.
LeBron James, arguably the player with the best case to be included in the NBA GOAT conversation alongside Jordan, tried to replicate the legend in 2021.
While playing for the LA Lakers against the Detroit Pistons in 2021, James lined up to take a free shot and was caught on camera saying: “Watch me do this with my eyes closed.”
Unfortunately for James, his shot fell well short and hit the rim of the basket.
Pulling off the stunt would have certainly added weight to the argument that LeBron can compete with Jordan for the title of NBA GOAT, but the fact that he failed so miserably reinforced the feeling that there is just not other player who can compare.
