Squid Game stars Lee Jung-jae and Jo Yu-ri tried their hand at the traditional Filipino game tumbang preso in a promotional ad for the hit Netflix series.
The clip shows the two Korean actors attempting to knock down a can using slippers, a hallmark of the popular childhood game.
Lee Jung-jae, despite his best efforts, missed the target. “This is hard,” he admitted.
Meanwhile, Jo Yu-ri successfully hit the can and enthusiastically addressed Filipino fans, saying, “Are you watching, Filipino fans? Hello!”
The clip quickly went viral on social media. It already gained 8.3 million views as of this writing after it was released on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.
Another wrote, “Jo Yu-ri is so cute playing it, and her greeting to Filipino fans is so sweet!”
Squid Game season 2 premiered on Netflix on December 26.
The series achieved the highest debut on the streaming platform with 68 million views four days after it was released.
The show’s second season follows the journey of Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) as he returns to the games, determined to end the games completely.
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Lee Jung-jae shared insights into his approach to portraying his character in the second season.
“I thought if I can portray and set up the character well in the beginning of Season 2, then it would immediately lead to the rationale behind his motivation and his decisions. So that’s what I really focused on,” he relayed.
“And in the game, his stress becomes really pent up and it’s actually shown from the outside, the way he looks. I thought it was very important to really portray the difference that he experiences both physically and mentally,” he added.
